About the Firm
Founded by Doug Taylor and Beverly Tew. Built to solve the permitting and inspection delays that were costing Florida contractors weeks of schedule time they couldn’t get back.
Our Story
Tew & Taylor was founded in 2008 by Doug Taylor and Beverly Tew. Since then, the team has been providing private inspections and plan review for clients across Florida — starting in Southeast Florida and expanding statewide as demand grew.
Florida Statute §553.791, enacted October 1, 2002 and revised July 1, 2006, gives property owners and contractors the right to use a licensed private provider for plans review, building inspections, or both — in place of the local building department. The law also ensures that projects using a private provider receive a reduction in permitting fees charged by the municipality.
Tew & Taylor was built to take full advantage of that framework. We partner with homeowners, homebuilders, architects, engineers, and developers across Florida to provide private plan review, inspections, and permitting management. Our in-depth understanding of local building code requirements — and the dynamics of local building departments — comes from 16 years and hundreds of projects in this market.
Today, the firm operates from regional offices in West Palm Beach, St. Petersburg, Orlando, and Jacksonville, and serves clients in more than 15 Florida counties.
Our Advantage
16 years of Florida-specific experience, same-day inspection availability, and an organizational commitment to responsive communication that is not common in this industry.
Same-day or next-day service depending on the municipality. Florida’s busiest building departments often run 1–3 week inspection queues. That gap is where schedules collapse.
Initial review returned in 2 days on average, all disciplines. Organized, numbered comments that are actionable rather than cryptic code citations.
One dedicated contact who knows your project from day one — not a rotating pool of strangers at every phase.
Inspectors carrying multi-discipline licenses cover building, electrical, plumbing, and mechanical where eligible — reducing scheduling complexity.
A dedicated, experienced permitting staff tracks every project through the municipal process — chasing status, flagging bottlenecks, and keeping each permit moving as fast as the jurisdiction allows.
Founded 2008. Multiple FBC code cycles, dozens of Florida jurisdictions, every project type. That local knowledge reduces friction at every stage.
Average construction timeline saved by Tew & Taylor clients compared to full municipal processing. That’s real schedule, real reduced carry costs, and real earlier delivery.
